11-21-2024 Fishing Report
Happy Thanksgiving everybody. We are finally entering my favorite fishing of the year. Water temps are still about 5 to 6 degrees higher than normal. I was seeing 63 on Wednesday this week mid morning after the rain passed. I was out doing a little scouting on Lake Murray and caught 21 stripers on threadfin shad sized artificials. Bama Rigs, Bucktails and swim baits all were working. More birds are starting to show but water temps will need to get into the 50’s before the big mass of them show up on our lakes. On Murray and Greenwood, I’m finding most of the fish close to the main river channels.
I havent been on Hartwell recently. It tends to cool a little slower than the upper parts of Murray and Greenwood. I am hearing some good reports from Clarks Hill with a lot of hybrids and stripers suspended close to the main Savanah River Channel mid lake up.
The white perch are really starting to gang up. Found good numbers on Greenwood and Murray recently. Jigging spoons by Berry’s Spoons are all I’ve needed to catch loads of them lately. One thing that happens every year in November to early January is hooking a suprising number of really big flathead catfish on the jigging spoons while targeting the perch. It’s usually after a big feeding frenzy with the perch has occurred. All that activity seems to draw the big predators. We occasionally get nice blue catfish too but it’s usually flat heads. Many times big largemouth will show up too.
Feel free to call or text if you want to talk about booking a trip or want some fishing advice. I am always happy to talk about the current trends and general patterns.
