1-22-2025 Fishing Report

Well we have gotten some real cold in January. I went to Greenwood on an 18 degree morning to look around a little and I saw water as cold as 38 with ice on top in the rivers and 42 degrees down near the state park. There was a bit of a shad kill happening with birds spread out everywhere picking shad off the surface. We have so much bait built up in the lakes it’s not a bad thing to thin some out. I really didn’t plan to fish very much but I got down lake below where the shad kill was happening and the fishing was incredible. I got at least 30 stripers pulling artificials with the trolling motor. If you ever want to learn the techniques of doing this in the winter give me a call. I rarely need to take live bait in the winter to have a great day.

This is the first January, in years that all of Lake Greenwood wasn’t bad muddy by mid January. Usually I leave for other lakes that don’t get as muddy once that happens. I’m trying to enoy it while I can.
